The photos on this page were taken during the Coín Romería which took place on on the 7th and 8th June. A few years ago Joe and I were able to ride our own Spanish horses and partake in the Romeria, however, we no longer have our horses so this year we went along to take a few photos so I could share the day with visitors to this website.
The Romerìa began after a blessing in the main square of the town and then proceeded to the hermitage about 3 kilometres away just on the outskirts. The very long procession consists of many horses and their riders, beautifully decorated floats and wagons pulled by tractors and occasionally donkeys and oxen. The young girls and ladies are dressed in fabulous trajes de flamenco and men in trajes camperos.
This year the procession lasted many hours the atmosphere was wonderful with lots of happy and smiling faces, many families, peñas including every age group from babies to pensioners sharing a fabulous weekend together. I say weekend because after the procession reached their destination they camped out for an evening of celebrations and the next day wound their weary way back to the town. It was great to see so many familiar faces including our local bank manager, grocer and school teacher all enjoying themselves!!!
